Project title: The provision and quality of Antenatal services in First-level care facilities in Pakistan’s Punjab province
Research topic: This study aims to assess, both quantitatively and qualitatively, ANC services being provided at first-level care facilities (BHUs and RHCs) in Punjab. The assessment seeks to identify inputs (in terms of resources, infrastructure, supplies, drugs and service delivery protocols), processes (client/patient interaction; patient history examination, and assessment; case management, follow-up) and ANC services and facility performance. This is a cross-sectional study.

Project title: Baseline Survey of Eight (8) Key Family Practices in Sindh
Research topic: This study aims to determine the dynamics and prevalence of eight (8) key antenatal and neonatal practices among the mothers of newborns aged =<28 days. These include antenatal health, nutrition during pregnancy, antenatal and natal care service uptake, antenatal and neonatal immunization, newborn feeding practices, hygiene and illness-related health seeking behaviors. It will also identify the socio-economic dynamics underlying and contributing to district-level perceptions, knowledge and understanding held by new mothers in a these key areas.
Duration: 1 Year (June 2010 - May 2011)
Location of the project: Five (5) MNCH districts in the province of Sindh: Karachi (formerly known as Malir District), Hyderabad, Tando Allahyar, Naushero Feroze and Jacobabad.
Project title: Myths and beliefs on MNH in Kalat
Research topic: This study aims to assess the effects of local myths and beliefs, working as barriers to the utilization of maternal and newborn health services. This research will explore the traditional health practices and beliefs about maternal and neonatal health in Kalat, a central district of Balochistan.
